Today, Hugo Boss is a well known fashion empire that owns over five thousand stores in 102 countries all over the world. Its annual turnover is more than half a billion dollars. However, it was not always like this. At the beginning, there was one man, a man that made one of the most fashionable clothing brands for men out of his name. The brand also includes colognes and accessories, and some time later, even women fashion was designed.

Hugo Boss established his company in 1923 in German Metzingen (the company headquarters is still located there), a city close to Stuttgart. Soon, he was forced to bankrupt in 1930, due to horrible economic situation in Germany. One year later he re-opened his company and became a member of Nazi party in Germany. With the arrival of Adolf Hitler, Hugo Boss company greatly developed and soon, it became official supplier of uniforms for the SS and SA soldiers. When Germany was defeated, Hugo Boss was accused of sympathies with the Nazi party. Hugo Boss lost his right to vote and he even had to pay a fine. Hugo Boss died three years later, in 1948. However, his company survived and started to produce fashionable men suits.

The timing was perfect, men fashion just began to develop and that was a huge opportunity for the company. Thus in sixties and seventies, Hugo Boss became a synonym for quality and fashionable men suits.

As time passed, Hugo Boss started to focus on sporty and casual clothes and right after 70 years from its establishment, in 1993, the brand came up with its own fragrance. In the late nineties Hugo Boss started to produce clothes also for women.
