There are not yet enough books about fashion and fashion designers and that is why the published book called Merci Karl is a bestseller. The book was written by Arnaut Milliard, the former assistant of Karl Lagerfeld. Naturally, he did not want the book to be published. However, a portrait of the narcissistic and capricious fashion designer is alive. Meanwhile it is only available in French bookshops but we hope that at least an English translation is upcoming very soon.

When the book Devil Wears Prada was firstly published, the chief editor of Vogue magazine had to face up to critics from all sides. The author of the book, Lauren Weisberg, describes an ambitious chief editor as a ruthless jade who strives hardly for her life goals. She is full of vagary and annoying requirements and always perfect with a dead pan. Anna Wintour has been characterized in this way in a popular book as well as in the much more popular film adaptation with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in the leading roles. Now Karl Lagerfeld also faces up to a similar critique.

Short Preview of the Book Merci Karl

Arnaut Milliard started to write the book in 2005 when he got fired from the position of an assistant. He describes all the possible habits and requirements of the world's most famous fashion king. One of those habits used to be to have Pepsi Cola in a crystal rummer designed by Baccarat which had to be changed every 30 minutes. In one interview Karl claimed that he had been working on a collection for H&M for three months every day and night and that he did not get any bonus. According to Milliard, however, it had just been for two days and millions in Lagerfeld’s wallet. Another interesting aspect of the genial fashion designer could be his narcissism. And one more information we learn about in the book is that Lagerfeld always scrutinizes every photo of him that’s published in the press or on the internet.

Fans of luxurious and beautiful fads have another fascinating topic for a discussion. Finally, the new book hit is offered in the world. Who knows, maybe we can expect another film about the world of fashion and the private life of a famous celebrity.
