Lacoste. When somebody says this word, I immediately imagine classic half-shirts made of material called piqué. Simple cut, high-quality material, colours all the time.

However, Lacoste is not just about half-shirts. What is this brand about? When and how was it established? What does it actually represent these days? You can find all the answers to these questions in this brief Lacoste profile.

The founder of the fashion label Lacoste was a successful French tennis player Jean René Lacoste. He was born more than a hundred years ago – on 2nd July 1904 in Paris and lived 92 years. In 1996 he finally died as a famous founder of a popular brand of luxury clothes.

Speaking about Lacoste you have to imagine a crocodile. Why this symbol? The Lacoste logographer has its origin in Jean René Lacoste's nickname, gained from American journalists in Davis Cup match in 1933.

In 1933 René Lacoste finished his tennis career and started to run a business. He and André Gillier established La Chemise Lacoste and they began with designing and creating clothes for the entire tennis world.

It has been almost eighty years since Lacoste clothing appeared in the market-place. Next tens of years it was followed by shoes and last several years by perfumes, too. Like I have already mentioned in introduction, Lacoste is characterized by sophisticated simplicity, high-quality materials and style that is constant but always trendy.
