How To Recognize an Original From a Fake?

Originally I intended to write a short profile of a fashion label Louis Vuitton but actually there are lots of Louis Vuitton profiles on the Internet and moreover, while I was thinking about the article I always stopped behind a phenomenon called “fake versus original“.

Without question, Louis Vuitton is the best known producer of luxurious ladies´ bags and suitcases in the world. It has also got itself at the position that attacks the top of the most frequently faked products in the world.

Unfortunately for the label Louis Vuitton, in streets you can see more fakes than originals. There you can mainly meet the popular handbags from the collections Monogram Canvas or Monogram Multicolor that are mostly (and with a great interest) worn by teenage “pseudo-ladies“.

How can we recognize a fake from an original? I can not give you the exact description. The reason is simple – falsifiers are always trying to improve their products. Moreover, there are more and more falsifiers, so there appear also more versions of Louis Vuitton fakes. The Louis Vuitton originals are supposed to be recognized from their serial codes on the labels that are sewn inside a handbag. However, I do not know the exact description of the codes and honestly – How complicated could it be to make an original code?

You will not reveal the falsifiers themselves and you may not succeed in a recognition of the exact fake at cent per sent. But do not be afraid, this article is going to make sense and some of you will at least pay attention to a new Louis Vuitton handbag while buying it.

In my opinion the most important thing is the seller's own choice. With regard to regular shops, it is obvious. You are not likely to buy an original in the market-hall, while you do not have to be afraid of buying a fake in Pařížská Street in Prague.

It is worse in case of buying goods on the Internet which is becoming the most frequented form of shopping these days.

While shopping on the Internet, the most decisive factor for you should be the price in the first place. Louis Vuitton handbags are being sold from 15,000 to 80,000 crowns (the older linen collection / the new leather collection), of course we are not talking about the limited editions but about the common ones.

When a seller on the Internet offers you Louis Vuitton Monogram Multicolor for 3,000 crowns, it is more than obvious that it is a fake. Even the best source can not offer a salesman a handbag with a purchase price under 5,000 crowns. Stolen handbags can be an extreme case there, but it is the question of morality if you want to wear a thing that was stolen before.

Another check point should be represented by information about a handbag provided by salesmen themselves. The frequent feature is for example that the sellers brag of their “originals“ to be leather made – these are mainly the faked designs from the collections Monogram Canvas, Monogram Multicolor or Monogram Mini Lin. The sellers offer them as full-leather but contrary is the case. Although Tivoli PM (from the series called Monogram Canvas) costs like ‚last minute‘ holiday, it is a handbag made of cotton linen covered by extremely thin layer and a printing with motives and LV monograms. The original LV salesmen know it very well. That is why they would never say that these styles were full-leather. The handbag handles and lining are the only parts made of calfskin.

Of course this rule does not apply to the handbags from Epi Leather or Nomade Leather collections, their names already include an English word “leather“, so their goods is full-leather.

The last point is the whole salesman's approach. Do not trust a seller who does not support the original product by a satisfactory amount of high-quality photographs. And do not ever believe to those who use promo photos from the web pages www.louisvuitton.com or from fashion magazines.

Nevertheless, I hope that this article will help you to avoid buying a fake which degrades not only the Louis Vuitton creators' efforts but also your image. And that is the point!
