Vivienne's Life

Vivienne Isabel Swire was born in Derbyshire in 1941. She married Derek Westwood and became a teacher at primary school. After three years of marriage and ordinary life she met somebody who completely changed her life. It was Malcolm McLaren, who later became the manager of the punk band Sex Pistols. When she was leaving her husband and job, Vivienne had surely no idea that one day she will be worldwide known as „The Queen of Punk“.

Her great career started from day to day. The moment she set her fantasy and talent free was crucial for her fame and success. The very first shop she opened with her second husband Malcolm was called Let it Rock. A year later, in 1972, the name of the shop was changed to Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die.

The real fashion revolution came with opening the shop that was simply called Sex. Every single member of Sex Pistols wore punk style that was designed by Vivienne and Malcolm. Razor blades, safety pins, chains and dog collars became the must-haves for every real punk soul.

The first runway show was held in London in 1981 and its name Pirates spoke for everything. There was a significant change in her work – from wild punk to romantic street style.

Other outstanding collections followed. There was a Savage collection in 1982 that was inspired by American Indians. The fashion show was full of Indians and the models were wearing clay instead of make-up.

There have been many changes in her personal life and in the names of her boutiques. But the most important thing is that she is still on the top and will be there for a long time.

Between Punk and Luxury

Vivienne has a unique and original style that was changing during the many years of her work – from a very punky to a sexy one that can be seen for example in the film Sex and the City. Carrie got almost married in a wedding dress designed by Vivienne and in the second sequel she was wearing those incredibly sexy heeled sandals made by Vivienne, of course.

Her style is inspired by history, street fashion and of course by her inner feelings. Let’s have a closer look at her masterpieces!

Super Elevated Gillie Shoes

This pair of shoes became very popular because of Naomi Campbell, who fell down on a stage during the London fashion week in 1993. Vivienne is famous for very high heels or platforms and even models have troubles to catwalk in these shoes!
