THE HISTORY OF PRADA

Who else could be responsible for luxurious bags and amazing shoes than Italians? We all should thank Mario Prada for opening his leathergoods shop in Milan in 1913. The very first products such as shoes, handbags and suitcases were made from walrus skin. Mario was the one who brought fashion into travelling. His suitcases and handbags became the sign of style. In a few years the logo Prada was famous not only in Italy but also in the USA. Mario’s daughter Miuccia loved fashion and she could not just sit back. In 1971 she joined her father and thanks to her abilities Prada was turning into a global fashion house. The black Prada bags were loved by many American stars in the 1980s, which brought Prada to the fore. Prada conquered the world with simplicity and precision.

PRADA PRODUCTS

Nowadays the Prada logo stands not only for handbags but also for belts, wallets, shoes, perfumes, mobile phones, clothes and accessories. Let’s have a closer look. Prada launched its own perfume collection in 2003. The perfumes became immediately very popular for their heavy and intensive scent. There have been 21 launched perfumes for men and women so far. Some of the fragrances have an intensive version, so if you prefer heavy and stronger scents, go for Prada Intense! In 2006 Prada joined up with LG and introduced the highly fashionable LG PRADA. It is little known that Prada came with the first touchscreen ever. In 2008 the second version of LG phone was released. It came with Prada Link – bluetooth watch that enables you to read messages or see caller ID without using a phone itself. Prada received much publicity thanks to a film THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. Everybody knows Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, the rude and cruel boss of Runway magazine. The movie is full of fashion, glamour and style so if you are a fashion lover, you must see it, but do not forget to wear Prada while watching the film!

PRADA AND CELEBS

Like every bigger fashion house, Prada knows that celebrities are the right choice to represent the label. You have surely noticed Linda Evangelista in the Autumn/ Winter 2008/09 campaign, Vanessa Paradis, Katie Holmes, Laetitia Casta or Kirsten Dunst as faces of Miu Miu (Prada’s second line, Miuccia's nickname).

PRADA AND ARCHITECTURE

Prada means art and what is more connected with art than architecture? The PRADA TRANSFORMER is a portable, shape-changing building that was developed by a Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and funded by Prada. The exclusivity of this building lies in simplicity. The structure can be rotated into four different planes to fit different cultural events – fashion shows, exhibitions, movie theatre,… You will find this amazing connection between fashion and art in Seoul, South Korea.
